Extreme biases in product: minimalism

Pen.io is a fascinating product. It lets anyone create a web page in seconds. It’s ruthlessly simple.

It’s the product of Anthony Feint, a designer and entrepreneur with a penchant for minimalism (see current.im as well). We helped him use AngelList to (combined with Launch.is) find funding.

Pen.io is fascinating because it’s an exercise in extreme characteristic - in this case, minimalism.

What if you subjected your product to a ground-up redesign based only on extreme simplicity? What about extreme social proof? Extreme salesmanship? Extreme customer support?

Whatever it is, designing around an extreme characteristic might add a new lens. Would you keep all of the original features? Would you add new ones? Would you modify?

Feels like a great hackathon experiment to refresh a team’s thinking on an established product.

About

Avatar I like to work with smart people to get great products to the right markets.

That started with building low cost water technologies in Senegal and Ethiopia. More recently I worked with AngelList to help startups and investors date better. I'm currently working with Greylock.
